OWee day 1: Securing a wristband and dining at the Schie

After their first-year weekends, the new students from the different faculties got to compete against each other loudly. Then it was time to get wristbands and get a good spot at the Schie dinner. Check out the photo report of OWee Sunday.

The programme for the first afternoon of the OWee (short for Ontvangstweek, which meand welcome week) is easy to follow: find your mentor group, get a wristband and make sure you have a good spot during the Schie dinner. And oh yes, if you participated in the First-Year Weekend of your study association, you can first show what you have learned there.

First-year students from Architecture (red shirts) and Industrial Design Engineering (green shirts) met on the IO square. The architecture students had diligently made banners. The industrial designers had to settle for the texts they had memorised. Anything to diss each other, anything for that superior group feeling.

The OWee cannot start until the first-year students have registered in the Aula. It takes a while, but it’s worth it: you’ll receive a highly coveted OWee wristband that gives you access to parties and other activities.

Dinner consists of a vegetarian barbecue and entertaining views. Participants are treated to a long parade of sports, cultural and social student associations. They all want the same thing: lots of new members. And if that means hanging upside down from a tree trunk, then that’s what you do.
