A nutcracking good time!

A decorated tree, dinner with and presents for family and friends . those are typical for Christmas time. But some events can embellish the holiday season even more, and there’s none better than the Christmas classic for young and old, ‘The Nutcracker’.

The ballet, based on a story by E.T.A. Hoffman, opens on Christmas Eve, with a young girl dreaming of a handsome Prince and a fierce battle against a scary Mouse King. Marius Petipa embodied this fairytale in a fabulous choreography and together with Tchaikovsky’s ingenious symphonic composition turned it into one of the great romantic ballets. ‘The Nutcracker’ is performed by the dancers of the Kirov Ballet of St. Petersburg, accompanied by the Lvov State Philharmonic Orchestra. Lucent Danstheater (LTD), Den Haag, December 24, 25 and 26.
Sleeping Beauty

Those who love the combination of Tchaikovsky’s music, Marius Petipa’s choreography and dreams coming true, shouldn’t miss ‘The Sleeping Beauty’, one of ballet’s greatest classics. The music, the narrative and the breathtaking story form a base for a virtuous masterpiece. The original story was an inspiration for Tchaikovsky, resulting in one of his most magnificent compositions. A beautiful princess is put to sleep by an evil magician; and 100 years later she is woken up by a kiss from a Prince Charming. A plot providing the characters and possibilities to build up a spectacular choreographic work framed in a delicate musical score. Performed by the Tatarstan State Opera & Ballet, Theater de Veste Delft, January 1, 2005.
