Nitant Shinde, 26, was given this statue of Ganesha by his mother before moving to Delft in September 2012 to pursue his master’s in aerospace engineering.

As Ganesha is the Hindu god of wisdom, intellect and revered as the remover of obstacles, Shinde finds the statute gives him the strength to pursue his goals. “This year, I will celebrate Ganesh Chathurthi or the birthday of Ganesha on August 29th. I will offer fresh flowers, food, and prayers to the Idol to mark the celebrations,” he says.
