News in brief

Innovation AwardNereda, the latest innovative technology for purifying wastewater, developed by TU Delft and DHV engineering bureau, was awarded the professional prize and public prize during the Industrial @09 Auteur:xAuteursnaamProcessing exposition held on October 3.

The jury found that Nereda is potentially the water purification industry’s breakthrough technology for the 21st century. Nereda’s strength lies in the application of aerobic sludge granules, which sink faster than the sludge, allowing the entire water purification installation to be more compact, and cheaper, as it requires smaller investments and uses less energy.
Delays

As of December 10, Delft will be more difficult to reach by train, owing to new NS scheduling. Delft Central Station is in the top 15 of difficult destinations to reach. For example, traveling to Nijmegen from Delft will now take 16 minutes longer than it does now. Also, traveling to Amsterdam will no longer take less than an hour, but rather at least one hour and 14 minutes. It will also take longer to reach Utrecht: one hour and 11 minutes.
Lockheed Martin

Lockheed Martin Corporation, TU Delft and the specifically the university’s Aerospace Engineering Faculty, the Dutch Ministry of Defense and the National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR) will intensify their partnership in the field of aerospace research. The parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding on October 10, during the NIVR JSF Technology symposium in Den Haag. This partnership will involve research into flight controls, flight simulations, production methods for composites, new materials and design methods.
Soap

A gala premiere was held on 11 October for the student soap opera, ‘Soap’, which will be shown weekly on the TU’s Sports & Culture Centre website, beginning on October 16. Soap follows the life of four TU Delft students (three males, one female) who have recently begun living together in a student apartment.
