KoornbeursStarting this summer, the dinners at the Koornbeurs’ restaurant will be cooked by volunteers. A professional cook currently handles the cooking duties, but the Koornbeurs says it can no longer afford to pay his salary.
The Koornbeurs has seen the number of diners decline over the years, making it harder to operate the restaurant at a profit. The Koornbeurs can also save money by moving the dining area to the basement. The upstairs dining area could then be used for hosting workshops and concerts.
Money matters
The VSSD, TU Delft’s Student Union, has a new financial website up that offers students advice about financial and money management matters. The current site has been online for a year, but has now been upgraded and expanded. The VSSD Student Union holds itself responsible for protecting the interests of all students currently studying at TU Delft, and together with the Workgroup International Students (WIS), has also recently set up an international workgroup.

TU instructors who give lectures in English have hopefully watched their words very carefully over the past months, because the VSSD Student Union is once again preparing to award its annual ‘Worst Teacher Award’ to the TU instructor with the worst proficiency in English. The giving out of this award had been suspended for the past couple of years, because the VSSD thought it only fair to first see if the English tests and courses that all TU instructors were recently required to take had improved the level of English proficiency throughout the university. But according to VSSD chairwoman, Eline Kleiwegt, the ‘Worst Teacher Award’ is now back because the level of English proficiency among TU Delft staff members still has room for improvement. “Students are still complaining,” Kleiwegt says, “especially about pronunciation.”
