News in brief

The ‘Pleuro’ strikes againAs of May 1st, TU restaurant are going to rise by as much as 8%. Once again, the reason for the price rises can be traced back to the introduction of the ‘pleuro’, a Dutch term of abuse for the new currency.

The increase is also blamed on rising wholesale and labour costs. Moreover, Facility Services’ operating costs, for the chipknip and cash machines, have been raised, while retail prices will once again be rounded off to the nearest 5 cents, making some products more expensive than others. The prices of basic foodstuffs will not rise as much as prices for specialty products. The new pricelist will be available on April 29 and more information can be found at www.fd.tudelft.nl.

Valuable prize for teamwork

The executive committee of the University Fund Delft invites groups inside the TUD to propose candidate groups for the UFD Ritsema van Eck prize. The prospective groups must be connected to the TU university community in some way and have turned in an excellent group performance in the field of (facilitating) research or education, or the group will have made a meaningful cultural (including sports) contribution to TU Delft society. The proposed groups must consist of at least two persons from TUD and half of the group must be younger than 29 years of age. Winners will receive a plaque and 4,500 euro. Candidate groups must apply before May 20. For more information: K.M. van der Laan, manager of the University Fund Delft, tel. 2786409/2785555.
