FuneralLast Tuesday the aula of the TU Delft was for a short moment a meeting place for the people who attended the funeral of Prince Claus.

For security reasons the Executive Board had decided to close the university because it expected a lot of visitors would use the roads leading to the TU and the parking place.

The TU was already thoroughly prepared for the ceremony. In 1992 the TUD did decide, together with the local authorities, to serve the royal house during funeral ceremonies.

The TU was satisfied with its contribution to the funeral. But some employees doubt whether it is necessary to close the TUD with future royal funerals in prospect

Battle of the robots

Armed with toolkits, pneumatic components and mecano, students will this Friday begin building robots for the annual Robot Games. This year the robots must be able to build towers. On Sunday, October 20th, at 7.00 p.m., the robots will do battle against each other at the Landbergstraat 15. Entrance is free.

Professor gets chair

Emeritus Professor Jakob de Swaan Arons, of the Applied Thermodynamics (DelftChemTech) department, has been awarded a chair professorship at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. This was made public during his official farewell party last Friday. At Tsinghua University’s department of Chemical Engineering, De Swaan Arons will give lectures in the field of industrial ecology and sustainable topics.
