New kind of congress
Professors weren’t welcome at a new kind of conference held last week for the third time. PhD students from the membrane filtration group of the Civil Engineering’s Sanitary department invited all young fellow researchers in their field. Instead of dense lectures given by renowned (old) professors, they entertained their guests with short lectures followed by workshops, a beach party, buffet, two excursions and a yearbook. And all this for fifty guilders, thanks to 20,000 guilder EU grant for conferences for high potentials.
Fancy cooking
Four-fifths of TU students cook regularly; three-fifths do so occasionally for more than five people; and two-thirds answered ‘yes’ to the question, ‘Are you a good cook?’, according to a survey conducted by the TU student union (Vssd). The Vssd aims to fortify the inner student by offering a cooking course especially for first-year students (also new MSc students), teaching them how to cook deliciously, cheaply, healthily and ecologically sound. The course starts at the end of September, if, that is, the Vssd can find a suitable and available kitchen. Apply at koken@vssd.nl.
