This summer, TU Delft will welcome a new catering service in campus. After eleven years, Cormet will take over from Sodexo. Cormet will collaborate more closely with local businesses so that the food will become more international with more halal choices.
Over the last few months, a team consisting of staff from human resources, the works council and communications, and representatives of the students council has explored options to find the best caterer for TU Delft.
Cormet Enjoy the Good Life – the official full name of the catering company – has won. It will hire local suppliers who can sell their goods on campus. TU Delft will keep an eye on proceedings. “We don’t want Kentucky Fried Chicken or McDonalds on campus,” says Philippe van der Pal, Facility Management’s Coordinator for Catering, Events and Hospitality. The food trucks and the other caterers that are not part of Sodexo will remain on campus.
Inexpensive choices will remain
This will allow TU Delft to make its current range of catering more international and to offer more halal choices, or so university expects. On top of this, the restaurants will be renovated to make them more pleasant.
Great plans, but some students just want a cheap cheese sandwich. Will this still be an option? “The inexpensive choices will remain available. Not everyone has a lot of money to spend,” says Van der Pal.
Sodexo’s departure does not mean that the staff will leave too. The ones on fixed contracts will start working for Cormet Enjoy the Good Life.
