During the recess week, the NAE (Netherlands Academy of Engineers) is publishing six recommendations for the Cabinet in formation. The NAE echoes the concerns of the Dutch people in numerous areas, as inventoried by the Social and Cultural Planning Bureau. These include the energy transition, climate, agriculture and horticulture, accessibility to care and housing, and national earning power.
‘Technology-driven innovation can and should play a key role in improving the Dutch social and economic situation’, the NAE writes. The Academy also argues that the Netherlands’ potential for innovation could be better exploited to tackle societal problems.
To this end, the Academy has six recommendations, two of which deal with the need for internationalisation.
- Promote international cooperation and endorse the importance of exporting excellent technology for our earning power.
- Continue to attract foreign talent and ensure that this talent stays here to strengthen our innovation power.
