On Wednesday, 26 February, the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering is in mourning following the passing of design lecturer Stefan van de Geer (1956 – 2025).
Van de Geer studied Industrial Design Engineering at TU Delft from 1978 to 1987 and later returned to the faculty after working in industry for several years. By bridging design practice and education, he ultimately dedicated himself entirely to teaching.
His combination of hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge proved invaluable to both student development and the advancement of education. Van de Geer integrated technical expertise with behavioural sciences and semiotics, translating these into concepts that were tested through simulations and tangible prototypes.
The notion of ‘interaction’ was central to his work and life—between disciplines, between people and objects, and between people themselves.
