Holi color run

The first ever Holi Color Run will be held at TU Delft on Sunday, March 30 2014. Holi is an ancient Hindu religious festival which is celebrated in the spring.

The Indian Student Association (ISA) of TU Delft normally organizes an annual Holi celebration. But this year representatives from Sports & Culture (S&C) thought it would be interesting to combine that with a colour run. “Colour runs have been so popular in different cities,” stated Esti Tichelaar, a programme assistant for S&C events. “So we thought bringing the run and the festival together would be great.”

The run itself will be five kilometers and will take place on campus. “By organizing this event we also hope to get people more familiar with our campus,” said Tichelaar. Each kilometer runners will be doused by organizers with a different brightly coloured powder. Runners are encouraged to wear white clothing so that the colours are more visible.

On the day of the race, runners can pick up their starting numbers from 14:00 at the registration desks in front of S&C. Participants can start running from 14:30 and there will be staggered starting times from there. S&C will provide a supervised cloakroom for storing personal belongings for €1.

Starting at 14:30 the Holi festival celebration will commence at Mekelpark and will go until 18:00. There will be two DJs spinning Indian and global tunes. In addition there will be Indian food and drinks available for purchase.

Although the event is limited to 250 runners, family and friends are welcome to participate in the celebration. The ISA will also be selling small bottles of color if others want to experience that part of the event.

“Some people may run seriously,” stated Tichelaar, “but we expect most of them to run for fun and to enjoy the colours.” She went on to say that organizers are really hoping to create a fun atmosphere.

Registration for the event can be done in person at the Sports & Culture desk or online via http://sc.tudelft.nl/. The cost is €5 for TU Delft students and €7.50 for others.
