Herkströter appointed as new ICT-director

The Executive Board has appointed Norbert Herkströter as CIO/director of ICT with effect from 1 January 2021. He succeeds Han Derkx, who has held the position of ICT Director ad interim since May this year.

Norbert Herkströter went from oil drilling to cloud storage. He graduated in Petroleum Engineering from TU Delft in 1988. In the first years of his career, he worked at Schlumberger Oilfield Services, including in Argentina and Tunisia. In 1997, he completed his MBA at the International Institute for Management Development (IMD); subsequently, he worked for four years as a project manager at McKinsey in Amsterdam. After various operational positions in the financial sector, including at ABN AMRO and NIBC Bank, he joined Aegon in 2009 as CTO. In that role, he was responsible for global data centre, networking, security and application development activities, and led the development and implementation of Aegon’s cloud strategy. Herkströter sees continuity mostly: “I have always worked at the cutting edge of technology, operations and business strategy, and I really enjoy being able to use this experience at TU Delft.”
