Dick van Gameren to step down as Dean of Architecture

As of February 2026, Dick van Gameren will no longer serve as Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment at TU Delft. He has announced his decision to step down after just under seven years in the role, sharing the news in a personal message on the intranet. Van Gameren will not be leaving the faculty entirely; instead, he plans to focus on teaching and research for several more years.

Until his departure, Van Gameren remains committed to tackling the challenges facing the faculty, he writes. Particular emphasis will be placed on the financial restructuring task, which requires a significant reduction in expenditure, and on the development of a new multi-year strategic plan.

Van Gameren took up the role of Dean in April 2019 at the faculty where he graduated in 1988. At the time, he had already served for thirteen years as professor and nearly eleven years as head of the Architecture department. He is also a partner and research director at the Delft-based architecture firm Mecanoo.

The recruitment process for his successor will begin shortly.
