Delft wants more educational talent
To make more people enthusiastic about teaching science and technology subjects, the municipality of Delft and TU Delft have signed a collaboration agreement.
In the plan, both parties aim to attract and retain potential teaching talent. This is necessary because there is a shortage of qualified teachers. A shortage that could affect the whole society, according to vice rector magnificus Rob Mudde. “Technology is present in all our sectors. This requires good technical education at all levels. That is impossible without well-trained technology teachers.”
Yet education alone will not solve the shortage. Initiator Renée Prins therefore calls for cooperation between business, government and education. “Our approach is aimed at people who want to teach STEM subjects at a secondary school for 6 to 8 hours a week, in addition to their studies or career in the business sector.”
