‘Declarations by board members in order’

The Dutch Education Inspectorate (Onderwijsinspectie) is satisfied with the reimbursement of expenses for administrators of universities and colleges of higher education. In a random check at fifteen institutions, the inspectors did not find anything unusual. This has sometimes been different. In the media, stories regularly surfaced about sky-high expense claims, such as travel expenses and an extremely expensive office chair. The previous Minister of Education threatened to intervene. The institutions then issued guidelines, which took effect in January 2018. The Inspectorate now wanted to know whether they complied with them. The minister is now satisfied, she writes in a reaction. There will be no statutory regulation. She does, however, ask for a little more transparency. (HOP, Bas Belleman)
