Climate activists blindfold Delft statues

Extinction Rebellion Delft climate activists have again blindfolded statues in their city on Sunday 11 June to draw attention to the climate crisis. Among the eight statues were Willem de Zwijger at Prinsenhof and the busts of J.C. van Marken & Agneta van Marken in Agnetapark. They were given protest signs around their necks with texts like ‘don’t look away’, ‘be fair’ and ‘this is a climate emergency’.

Extiction Rebellion started with the so-called Statue Sunday in April, initiated by Scientist Rebellion. That observes that adequate climate action is lacking, even though science has provided enough evidence that it is acutely needed. Earlier, XR Delft blindfolded the statues of Hugo de Groot, the Milkmaid and Geertruyt van Oosten. (SB)
