Activists occupy Leiden University building

On the morning after the elections, climate activists occupied two classrooms at Leiden University. Some 50 students from the action group End Fossil Leiden Delft put up banners and demanded that the university cut ties with the fossil industry, reports university magazine Mare (in Dutch).

Rector Hester Bijl engaged in talks with the activists. The university will issue a statement on cooperation with the fossil industry in February, so she could not yet make any promises to the occupiers. At the end of the afternoon, the building was still occupied and the police had to come by. The eviction was peaceful. No one was detained. (HOP, BB)
