Royal decorations for TU Delft staff and alumni

Vice Rector Magnificus Rob Mudde was appointed Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion on Tuesday. Mudde received the award from the hands of Mayor Marja van Bijsterveldt, who praised his commitment to the education and wellbeing of students. “He does not allow himself to be constrained by existing frameworks and conventions. He is an educational thinker and innovator,” said the mayor.
During the traditional rain of ribbons, eight other people from Delft received a royal decoration. Former TU Delft employee Gerard van der Veen was appointed Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau. Van der Veen received the award for his work at the Botanical Garden, where he was active for over fifty years as an educator, organizer of exhibitions and festivals, and tour guide. After his retirement he is still involved as a volunteer. Colleagues call him an “indispensable force.
TU Delft Architecture & the Built Environment alumni Peter Jonquière (Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau) and Do van Eijs (Member of the Order of Orange-Nassau) also received royal decorations. (MvdV)
