Leiden University closes The Hague location due to security risk

 

 

A The Hague location of Leiden University was closed on Friday. There was reportedly an ‘increased security risk’. The university did not want to disclose details. Police are on the scene.

 

The location in question is the Wijnhaven building, next to The Hague Central Station. The university’s website states that students and staff are “requested not to come to that location”. Student or staff passes are being checked at other university buildings in The Hague.

 

A spokesperson informed that the university would not share more information about the nature of the risk at this time. According to the Hague police, a car containing several officers was deployed.

 

The building houses seven faculties with 3,500 students. They offer studies such as security studies and international criminal law, among others. TU Delft’s Master’s programme in Engineering and Policy Analysis is also housed there. It is not yet clear if the measures are only for today. The executive board will “let us know as soon as possible when the building on Wijnhaven will reopen” (HOP, PvT).
