Quality inspection on pause

Quality inspection on pause

Some programmes at universities and colleges of higher education are granted a one-year postponement of the compulsory quality control of their education. They have enough on their minds already in the corona crisis, is the idea.

The measure is contained in the new ‘service document’ that has been put online today. Normally, every six years programmes have to show the accreditation organisation NVAO that they have their quality in order. However, the ministry and the institutions are afraid that the workload will increase too much in this day and age if lecturers and managers also have to prepare for accreditation. So there will be a delay.

Serious reasons

If programmes actually have to hand in their papers on 1 November 2021, they can ask for a postponement. Only in the case of “compelling reasons” will the accreditation organisation NVAO say no to this. Other study programmes, which have to hand in their papers as early as 1 May, have probably already been working on the entire process of accreditation for a long time, so postponement would make little sense. It is only in the case of ‘unforeseen circumstances’ that they may also take an extra year. (HOP, Bas Belleman)
