Face mask fines on campus?

Face mask fines on campus?

On 1 December, it became a legal requirement to wear a face mask in higher education. Failure to do so risks a fine of EUR 95. The only question is who will impose it? After all, the doorman, security guard or corona-campus coach are not authorised to do so.

According to spokesperson Femke van Zijst of the university association VSNU, it cannot be taken for granted that fines will be imposed on campus. “Most universities are already enforcing the rules with stewards, corona hosts or professional security guards,” she says. Anyone who persistently refuses to wear a face mask may be reprimanded by the Dean. If necessary, access to the building will be denied. The national requirement to wear face masks applies to everyone aged 13 and over. Gym, singing, theatre, dance and certain forms of practical education are exempt, reports the central Government. People with a disability or illness who are unable to wear or put on a face mask are also exempt. (HOP)
