More international students to Sweden
Despite the corona pandemic, the number of international students in Sweden is increasing by 13 percent. The universities are pleasantly surprised: they were expecting a decrease. By the end of October, we should be able to see how things are going in the Netherlands.
In August, the Swedish higher education sector expected a significant decrease in the number of international students. But especially the number of students from countries outside the European Economic Area (EER) has grown considerably, according to University World News. The University of Lund, for example, has almost twice as many Chinese students as in the previous academic year, and at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm the number of students from outside Europe increased by a quarter.
Experts believe that Sweden is relatively popular now that higher education in the United States and Australia is difficult to access due to the corona pandemic. Another factor would be that universities in Sweden offer their freshmen a lot of physical education. The universities that only teach online do not see an increase in the number of internationals.
