QuTech-researcher nominated for New Scientist science talent

TU Delft scientist Sophie Hermans, who is building the world’s first quantum network at QuTech, is one of fifteen nominees for the title of greatest scientific talent in the Netherlands and Flanders. The election is organised by science magazine New Scientist and is intended to give young scientists a platform for their research. The nominees come from all corners of science and are involved in areas such as asthma, lightning, marine mammals, psychedelics and human-centred robotisation.

Sophie Hermans is working with her colleagues on the quantum internet. This new internet should make it possible to send information completely securely and privately. Hermans has succeeded in teleporting quantum information by controlling a single atom in a crystal using electrical pulses and light.

Vote

Anyone can vote online for one of the nominees until 8 September. During Science Weekend (4 and 5 October), an expert jury will announce who will be named New Scientist Science Talent 2025.
