Queen’s Day

This weekend is Koninginnedag, or ‘Queen’s Day’, a weekend-long party to celebrate Dutch Queen Beatrix’s birthday. But this year you don’t need to go all the way to Amsterdam to enjoy the festivities.

Here in Delft a host of special events have been organized as part of the ‘Orange Sun Festival’, which will be held on the Agathaplein (near the Oude Kerk). The festivities, which begin on Queen’s Day (30th April) at 12:00 and run all day, include juggling and acrobatic shows, clowns, exotic food, an open-air market and many concerts. The musical lineup includes a mix of capoeira groups (Capoeira Liberdade), afrobeat dj’s, African percussion (Mansa Camio) and the klezmer beat of L’Chaim. This year there’s lots of Queen’s Day fun and dance to be enjoyed right here in Delft!
