A highpoint of the TU’s anniversary year is the Summer Festival, held on June 8. In addition to famous Dutch artists like Ilse de Lange and Johan, various TU staff members and students will also be performing, including Executive Board member Paul Rullmann, who will sing and play guitar in a band that includes Professor Ted Young (vocals) and Professor Luuk van der Wielen (saxophone).
The festival’s main theme mirrors that of the TU’s Anniversary year: Africa and Sustainability.
Other TU staff and student bands performing include the winner of the student band competition, Stikker, and the winner of the TU dance contest, DJ Royal Stush. To see the more famous acts, you need to buy a ticket for the benefit concert. This concert begins a 20:00 with a band form Mozambique, Nfithe. Later in the evening Ilse de Lange, The Sheer and Opgezwolle will perform. The proceeds from this concert will go to Students 4 Sustainability, an organization that invests technological know-how in three TU projects in Africa.
The Summer Festival also offers theater performances, and djembe and photography workshops. There are also many African-themed events and activities, like a market, theater, an African choir and African food. There will also be a ‘sustainable talkshow’ led by Wilfried de Jong. The summer festival is free for TU staff members, students, alumni, retirees and their partners and children. Presale tickets (until June 7) for the benefit concert cos 5 euro and can be purchased at the Aula and Sports Centre. After June 7, the tickets cost 7.50 euro. (SB)
