With little requirements other than an inexpensive price, the two made Cloosterman Fiets their first stop. “We picked out this bicycle for her because we thought it was nice and a good price. She ended up having problems with it because it was too big so she gave it to me. Then we had to go back and get her another new bike,” explained Soudjani.
In fact, when looking at the bike, the first thought is that it is neither small nor feminine. Soudjani stands over 180cm tall and the bicycle looks like just the right height for him. In the two years that he has owned it, he has not had any problems with it. He uses it everyday, primarily to get to and from work. “I find biking here to be really nice. There are the special bike routes which we don’t have so much of back in Iran,” Soudjani said.
Back in Iran, Soudjani had a car and did not use a bicycle to get around. Surprisingly though, when asked whether he misses having a car, Soudjani answered with a clear “No!” He thinks it is much safer to get around in the Netherlands on a bicycle than it would be in a car. He does not even mind biking in the snow or rain. “Biking in the snow is not dangerous. The only problems are early in the morning when they sprinkle the sand. Then it can be slippery,” he answered. Despite having received the bike by default rather than choice, Soudjani seems quite pleased with his purchase. Let’s hope that his wife is as satisfied with her replacement bike as he is with her original one.
