Molecular electronics

Researchers from TU Delft and Groningen Universities have developed a single molecule which may serve as an amplifier in nano-sized electronic circuits.

They published their results in Nature Nanotechnology online on August 31 2014. The current through the molecule, bridging the gap between two gold electrodes, decreases at increasing voltages. This so-called negative differential conduction may be used to amplify electrical signals. Next is the molecular diode that converts AC to DC, say the researchers led by Prof. Herre van Zant.
